We were recently appointed to investigate potential defects caused to a partial timber framed property following the installation of retrospective insulation blown into the cavity.
Timber, like all wood, requires free air circulation in order to prevent decay. Once open wall cavities are filled with insulation, air circulation is greatly restricted. Fully insulating the cavity with a retro blown cavity wall insulation product increases the risk of condensation forming and being trapped against the frame. Subsequently increasing the risk of dampness, timber decay and woodworm. Such issues can cause structural failure to the timber frame.
Our approach to such matters allows our skilled surveyors to effectively assess both the internal and external aspects of a property. In undertaking a comprehensive intrusive survey of this property, we were able to swiftly determine the appropriate course of action and current condition of the timber frame.
Through our role we provided an independent, Specific Defect Report so that the resident had a clear course of action to take.
If you have any issues at your property and are in need of independent consultation and advice, we would be happy to discuss how we are able to ensure your targets are met and the quality you expect is delivered.
