Client: Student Accommodation / Coventry

Services: Fire Compartmentation Survey

Is you building safe and compliant when it comes to containing smoke and fire in the event of an emergency?

We were recently appointed to undertake a fire compartmentation survey at a block of student apartments in Coventry City Centre. Though the development was constructed relatively recently (2019), concerns were raised over the consistency of measures implemented to compartmentalise the building to appropriately contain fire and smoke in the event of an emergency.

In such cases, particularly when high-rise buildings are concerned, such passive fire protection measures as fire compartmentalisation are essential for the safety of occupants within the building. Establishing an appropriate and robust barrier between compartments can provide life saving time to those escaping buildings by preventing the rapid spread of smoke and fire.

When considering the vast areas to which appropriate measures must be implemented to sufficiently compartmentalise a building, in conjunction with the varying array of materials, practices and techniques applicable to such work, it is essential that an appropriately qualified and experienced professional is appointed to investigate any concerns.

Over the course of a week, we were able to extensively inspect and survey all 20 floors of the development. Numerous shortcomings were identified and itemised for remediation. We were pleased to have been appointed and pleased to have been involved in the initial steps to significantly improve the safety within the building, particularly in the case of fire emergency.

If you have any questions relating to fire compartmentation surveys, student blocks or high-rise developments, we would be happy to discuss how we are able to assist you having the confidence that your property is in a safe, compliant and suitable condition.
