Do I need a Building Survey?

November 21, 2022

At a time when you are already spending lots of money, a survey can seem like a big expense you can do without. However, its far better to be aware of any issues before buying  a house so you can make an informed decision about how much you are willing to pay for it or how much you will need to budget for any repairs or renovations.

A building survey is designed to provide a full assessment of the condition of a building and our conclusions section at the end of the report will summarise the main defects identified and provide budget costs for their rectification if appropriate.

This information can then be used to negotiate with the vendor. For example if your survey finds that you will need to undertake repairs costing £10,000 you could ask for a reduction off the price for the same amount, or you could request that all repairs are rectified prior to you moving in.

Deciding to not proceed with a building survey could cost you dearly in the long-run.
