Drone technology gives a bird’s-eye view for better surveys

February 28, 2017

As the interest in drone technology and its application in the surveying profession is on the increase, we have produced a video highlighting its uses. Our director, Chris Jude, explains the benefits it can bring to the industry.

Drones bring a whole new perspective when surveying, identifying defects, and mapping out sites. They can offer so much more than traditional ground surveys, providing high quality imagery of areas that would otherwise need to be accessed by scaffolding or a platform, or that would be unsafe for a person to investigate.

Using drone technology is also a quicker and more cost-effective solution to surveying large-scale sites areas and individual properties. And thanks to the HD quality, levels of accuracy, scale, precision and detail that is not possible using traditional methods can be achieved.

As well as being beneficial to our client – in that we can offer more detailed and accurate reporting – for us as a business, we can capture data and create scans that can be shared and stored in-line with the Building Information Modelling (BIM) guidelines. BIM is a UK government legislation which requires construction supply chain information to be made available to all parties electronically to support the efficient completion of building and maintenance projects.

Drone technology is an exciting development for the industry and we can already see the benefits it can have for both surveying professionals and their clients.

We’ve created a video to show how we use the technology in surveys, watch it now.
